Food Rescue · Reducing Food Waste

Since 2014, 7-Eleven has partnered with Foodlink Foundation to donate safe-to-eat surplus food to vulnerable groups in Hong Kong – helping cut food waste and hunger. Today, more than 230 of our stores take part. Each week, Foodlink volunteers collect leftover bread and redistribute edible surplus to people who need it.

We’ve also expanded donations to include surplus packaged foods, drinks and premiums – supporting NGOs, underprivileged students and rehabilitation centres – so more people across Hong Kong receive the food assistance they need.

Sustainable Food-Waste Solutions

7-Eleven is expanding long-term, sustainable approaches to unavoidable food waste. In 2025, we partnered with A Plastic Ocean Foundation to take part in an innovative kitchen-waste initiative – Bio-Loop: Community-Based Food Waste Bio-Circular Scheme– to further advance sustainable food-waste upcycling with nature-based solutions (NbS).

The Bio-loop pilot feeds inedible scraps to black soldier fly larvae – often called nature’s ‘clean-up crew’. The larvae are then converted into protein-rich fish feed and fertilizer, supporting fish growth and plant cultivation. Edible fish and vegetables are donated to charities for distribution to households in need.
